Pietersite is named according to Sid Pieters who discovered it in 1962 in Namibia, Africa.

The fibrous structure in Pietersite has been folded, stressed and have then been reformed and naturally recemented together again, via the Earth's geologic processes.  

This creates a finished stone with multiple hues of blues, golds and reds, forming swirls that may flow in many directions.

All fibrous color variations have a superb and striking chatoyancy, the bright and subtly changing shimmer of color that moves along the surface of a gemstone as it is viewed from varying angles.
